2 house envy: vogue APT

pics: vogue

i was recently directed to the US Vogue website, specifically to their APT with LSD section and what a gold-mine! this beauty above belongs to fashion designer Minnie Mortimer. i especially love the 70's skateboarding photo and the chunky woven baskets, and how good is the library/dining room? books definitely maketh the room.

my most favourite of all has to be the home of LSD (Lauren Santo Domingo) herself - i love a girl who's as neat and organised as me! check it out below...

pics: vogue

and last, but certainly not least, a room that ticks all my boxes: a Jeff Koons, a latte coloured velvet sofa, insane flooring, high ceilings, huge chandelier, cornicing and those drop dead drapes.

pic: vogue

this room sits in the house of Samantha Boardman, M.D. oh to be rich and living in New York...

1 light me up

I'm so excited i we got our first engagement pressie! a joint effort from both parents and when i saw them in the flesh i was nearly hyperventilating. these bad boys perch perfectly on
my new bedside tables. i think the only thing that could make my bedroom more perfect now would be an Hermes Avalon blanket

(as well as being my only bridesmaid...actually, i dont think i ever even asked her, i think we both just assumed!) anyway, dont worry this will not become a wedding planning blog, just the occasional post...maybe...

3 HORSE

pic: NYtimes

pic: lonny

i had a horse most of my childhood, a chestnut arab. i was horse crazy - going to horse camps in the holidays and covering my year books and bedroom walls in magazine tears. nowdays i prefer something a little more grown up and since i dont have a horse anymore i am looking to interiors for my equine fix. of course there is the Mooi horse lamp but i dont live in an aeroplane hanger so that's not an option. i'm thinking maybe a huge photo, although i do stil have some florence broadhurst horses stampede leftover from my bedroom at my parents house...

3 JULIA deVILLE

i was introduced to New Zealnd native Julia deVille's work through Hayley Smith, creator of Serpent and the Swan who is obsessed with
mourning jewellry. Julia has been fascinated with the macabre from young age, hence the name of her label 'Disce Mori' from the Latin phrase meaning 'learning to die'. her subjects are deceased, taxidermic animals mostly donated or found by deVille herself. on offer are a deceased bird with diamond eyes, a blue feathered wing brooch, a mouse with sterling silver tail and the most amazing, a rabbit with sterling silver rib cage and ruby hanging as the heart. you have to see it for yourself! here are a few of her more wearable pieces...

3 table settings

i have begun collecting tableware. i never thought i would be interested in it but i've found myself lusting after fresh white cotton napkins and little salt dishes and i am currently on the hunt for the perfect placemat.

if you didn't already know, the king of place settings and tableware is Alberto Pinto - creator of the most exquisite tables around the world and in his own home (all photographed in his eponymous book) if you are looking for inspiration, this is as far as you need to look...

1 la recherche interminable

i first came into contact with the hermes tray while watching an episode of the city featuring olivia palermo in her apartment. i was jealous to say the least and began my futile search - it is not something one can simply stroll over to hermes and buy. there is the smaller lacquered change tray that is quite cheap, considering, but who am i kidding, a measly catchall compares not to the tray. oh hermes!

0 leopard

if i had to rank my prints and colours in order of love, at the top would be pink but coming a close second would be leopard - not the garish kind, the blink and you'd miss it kind. whether its a cushion, a scarf, a clutch or a book i loves me some leopard. the incongruity is though, my wardrobe is a sea of grey, denim and cream, everything else belongs on my alter ego self!

3 house envy: sea of shoes at home

i used to read sea of shoes all the time until interiors became the focus of my life instead of shoes. more recently i was looking through my iphoto and found these pics of Jane Aldridge's (daughter of Judy Aldridge) bedroom makeover. how luxurious is it? full of texture and layers - something i think i would get sick of - i am minimal to the core - but a room i adore nonetheless.

3 karl springer made my dream console

pic: 1stdibs

this 1970's modernist console was created by the late designer and manufacturer of luxury furniture and accessories, Karl Springer. i first saw this when styleswoon made over Judy Aldridge's (of Atlantis Home) house last year. it's made from  lacquered wood, has faux tusks with a lucite top and patinated brass mounts. really, it belongs in my F.F.H but lets take a look at dream console in it's current home...

1 DIY: table tops

i bought these little perspex tables years ago at
Wheel and Barrow, they are actually drinks trays but i use them as bedside tables. eventually i got sick of dusting them and replaced the trays with a piece of stone. the perspex legs have now been replaced with steel frames and this is what they look like...

they are much sturdier so now i am on the hunt for some new lamps! so excited...

p.s. thanks bec!

4 what's in my bag

pic: HBP

i have always loved these stories in magazines so here's my version! bag: balenciaga giant day bag (very old and last year i thought it was on its last legs until i heard about my bag spa in melbourne and off baggy went! she came back 1 week later brand spanking new! i kid you not they work wonders on bags) vuitton wallet was a bit mumsy for my taste but this bad boy doesn't age! the nars pure matte lipstick in tashkent is a fav and, actually, a purchase after seeing Hannah from Capture the Castle raving about it, homeoplasmine (the makeup artists secret - god i am a sucker) is an essential as is my fracas fragrance. the sunnies are tom ford dahlia and the scarf mcqueen, of course.

0 the professionals: burnham

i was doing a search for a picture from canadian house and home nov 2010 issue for someone and stumbled upon this website (the pic was of an hermes tray with porcupine quills in a horn jar - see N.H.T). the website belongs to interior designer and accessories junkie betsy burnham. she has a style that takes a really keen eye - lots of layering and accessorizing using fancy and not so fancy furnishings. her look seems accessible but actually takes a lot of effort and, lets be honest, a really good stylist. either way i love her stuff and so did lonny mag - they did a feature on her in their feb/march issue last year. p.s. i was particularly enamored with her when i saw this pic that sits in her office...

did you think i would end the post without further mention of the hermes tray? i am on a never ending search for this bad boy but thats another post entirely.

3 let's be friends

i usually have a bit going on in the wrist wear department, namely a fine gold chain, a chunky gold chain with neon thread woven through and a mushroom coloured Laurence Oppermann thread bracelet (from Via Rustica). more recently, ispired by the likes of Louise at Table Tonic and Leandra over at Man Repeller, i have amassed a small collection of friendship bracelets. at the moment they are just sleeping in a box because sometimes i just want an unfussy look and it's a hassle to keep taking them off, putting them back on etc. anyways - i thought this tutorial from P.S I made this was super cute and inspired me to do some D.I.Y.(yet to do the D.I.Y)

here is a pic of my wrist wear...

Into the gloss is the best blog. i never knew how much i liked to know what products other people used until this blog existed! my favorite posts are the 'Top Shelf' ones - a peep at cool girls (and sometimes boys) bathrooms. so freshly organised and full of so many exciting products. and how satisfying is it to arrange and rearrange your own products? maybe that's just me...
