2 my place: sea of pillows

i forgot to do an update post on my new sea of cushions after this post. Magda from in residence got them made for me and they are so perfect and stuffed and choppable i love them! J thinks our bed is like cribs now and finds it annoying to make, but i catch him karate chopping the pillows ALL the time so he can't hate it that much...

4 DIY: project chair: more progress

here is the next installment of project chair. i cracked open my new little sander and spent about 2 hours getting sanding away the layers of paint still left after the paint stripper job i did last weekend. it kind of looks like white washed wood now. i really wanted to get it right back to the original wood, so it looks like it's another weekend of sanding for me. next phase is varnishing/sealing it and then the fun part...choosing the fabric! stay tuned

2 DIY: project chair: progression

so, i went into Bunnings on my way home from work this afternoon and purchased a beauty of a sander. it's a ryobi and it's neon green and it has a skinny attachment which is perfect for what i need to do. this project is getting more and more fun. i can't wait until this pesky rain stops so i can go outside and get sanding!

0 DIY: chair update

so, an update on project chair. i julian coated on the paint stripper this morning and at least one coat of grotty old gold paint came off leaving a faded white underneath with hints of the original wood. i also removed the pink towel like seat and plier-ed out all the staples from fabrics gone by. i might give it one more go myself with the paint stripper but i am thinking it might be easier just to pay someone to do it. has anyone ever done this before and have any hints for me?

1 DIY: project chair

firstly, i am sorry for the offensive photos, i am looking to get a good camera very soon. this is the chair i bought at the antique centre on the weekend. it was sitting all lonley in a jumble of other chairs and you couldn't possibly guess why this one caught my eye, could you?! it's an old tub chair with the most delicious hessian back and rattan sides but the gold paint job is hideous and the pink seat actually looks like an old beach towel up close. so, alot of work to do but i am very excited to get started hopefully this weekend and show you the finished product in the coming weeks...watch this space! p.s. the fact that it was $50 wasn't bad either.

i currently use 2 perspex drinks trays from wheel and barrow bought about 2 years ago (pics to come). they have cross legs and a removable tray on top. more recently i got sick of the dust that would accumulate on the perspex so i replaced them with a square of natural stone left over from mum and dads bathroom reno years ago. i don't think the perspex legs are quite up to carrying the weight of the tile so i cant really put much on the tables other than a lamp and clock, so i have decided to get some metal frames made for the tiles much like the ones pictured. they are due to be finished any minute but now that i have seen them used as coffee tables i am thinking i might look for new bedsides altogether or go back to the perspex ones and use the new ones as a coffee table. but then when i was at parterre last week with mum i saw this beauty below and now can't stop thinking about it...

0 DIY: chair before and after

i originally found this chair at Dust in darlinghurst. it was pouring and i was running late for work but i saw it on the street and had to have it. it came with some shabby faux leopard print which i kept for a while before getting it covered in this multi coloured leopard print (an 80's jacket). this phase lasted a few years until it no longer fit my more modern tastes. it lay hidden in my parents garage until more recently when dad i was cleaning out the garage. i stripped it and painted it silver and got it covered in this gorgeous chevron fabric. my beautiful friend bec (who is an interior designer) helped choose the fabric and sourced the perfect silver for me.
