3 etagere

pic: 1st dibs (of course!)

could you get any more exquisite than this? i mean really! so up until now, i have been rolling along living in a world that did not know the word etagere (a piece of light furniture which was extensively made in France during the latter part of the 18th century. It consists of a series of stages or shelves for the reception of ornaments or other small articles - thank you wikipedia) in my future fantasy home this 1970's beauty from romeo rega takes centre stage in the living room delightfully ready to scoop up my delicacies into wonderfully witty vignettes for all to marvel at. my other recent discovery is milo baughman, he was a man after my own heart and created some beautiful etagere specimens like this one for sale (and reduced) on etsy, if only i lived in canada. let's take a peek at some etageres in all their glory shall we?

8 heavy shelf work

han and i spent some time last saturday styling her brand spanking new bespoke shelves. she has some more things arriving to slot in but i think this is a pretty good start! i love all her coral and her freedom spaghetti gold side table (bottom left).

another new addition to her home is her Italian Greyhound called Lola (i call her lolly for short). she weighs 350 grams and bounces around like bambi trying to find her feet, she is exquisite!

0 bookmark: sculpture/bookshelf

is it a sculpture? is it a bookshelf? no! its a bookmark, hybrid sculpture by UK native paul cocksedge and was originally commissioned by Wallpaper* for their handmade exhibition in Milan.  it's really the perfect piece "for bookworms to show off their latest literary volumes" i LOVE it! how good would helmut newtons sumo look dangling off one of these?

4 the sideboard/progress

i had a bit of drama with my new sideboard, it arrived damaged which i only noticed after the delivery guys had left. it looked like it had been dropped on one corner and then it took over a week to find another one as they were discontinued and i had to have floor stock (i got a partial refund though - yay!) so i can finally start merchandising this bad boy up. the asian (chinese?) comics were found at a local op shop, i loved the colours. the penguins are just the start of my collection. i am actually struggling to work out what to put on the top as i am not completely sure of its function yet so this may be a work in progress!

i will keep you posted with the changes and the final look

5 need/storage

i need something like this for the spare room/office. i have a tall ikea side-less one at the moment but its not weighty enough and hannah has bought my big ottoman that was at the back of the room so i need something to replace and fill the space. i love how this one is floating, because we are renting i obviously can't have that, but i would love something similar (this one is from montana). i also really love the thin lines as opposed to chunky ikea sides (although this ikea one looks okay) any suggestions of where to look in sydney are greatly appreciated!

5 bookshelfing

i am pretty envious of this bookshelf owned by lynn ban as captured by the glow - the coral, the books (i like how they are ordered by height - it looks so neat), the skulls, the photos, the pops of colour and that zebra skin rug (and her kids pretty cute too!) i also spy a pretty heavenly light in her lounge room...i am DYING to have a bigger space to live in one day so i can fill it with more large scale accessories, but for now i am happy collecting the small stuff!

1 bookshelf envy part deux

this exceptional bookshelf belongs to self service paris magazine editor claire thomson as captured by the girls at the coveteur. the vintage kelly doesn't hurt either, i always love how girls describe how they wear their trillion dollar bags "I like to dress it down with jeans, Converse and a sweatshirt" she says like it's nothing. and i couldn't resist her 12 year old step daughter Paloma's fashion forward bedroom (below) very jelly of her signed kanye show invite

4 bookshelf

pics: the selby and flickr

i have a small bookshelf, nothing to brag about. due to lack of storage i usually end up donating books or storing them in my parents garage. i cant wait to live in a house with some big ass built in book shelves. in my fantasy i would colour code for the rainbow bookshelf look. i recently saw a crate of vintage penguin crime books in a forest-y green colour at a Salvation Army store on the northern beaches - i wish i got a bunch to start my collection. take a peep of my shelf work.
